The John Miles Memorial Scholarship Fund launched in conjunction with Reading Real Estate Foundation to support exemplary students
The John Miles Memorial Scholarship Fund was launched in his memory by his former business partners, Ben Simpson and Jim Remfry, and in conjunction with the Reading Real Estate Foundation (RREF), following his tragic and premature death on 30 July 2021.
The scholarship celebrates excellence and rewards outstanding students enrolling on an undergraduate degree in Real Estate & Planning at Henley Business School, University of Reading. The scholarship was launched in September 2022 and is awarded to candidates demonstrating exceptional academic merit and a commitment to a career in property.
The funding provides support towards studies for the duration of the 3-year course and successful applicants will be offered mentoring and internship opportunities at Clifton Agency.

John Henry Miles was an alumnus of the Real Estate & Planning Department at the University of Reading, graduating in Land Management as part of the class of 1989. He was proud of his affiliation with the University as one of the leading institutions in real estate worldwide.
After graduation, John maintained a close relationship with the University and RREF, volunteering as a mentor and regularly attending industry knowledge events and Gala Dinners.
John started his professional career at Clive Lewis & Partners, before moving to Auguste Thouard in Paris and Chase & Partners. He co-founded the CWM investment department in 2007, which rebranded as Clifton Agency in March 2022.

“John was passionate about mentoring the next generation. Over the past 15 years he always made time to offer support and guidance to those starting out in their professional careers – if you needed a valuation guru, or help understanding cash flows, equivalent yields and IRRs, John was your man! At last count, there are 18 past and present employees, including my wife, who have Milesy to thank for their qualifications.”
Jim Remfry, Co-Founder of Clifton, said:
“Milesy was universally liked and respected by the people he worked with at CWM and across the industry. He took a genuine interest in others and was someone I and many others looked up to. With the support of John’s wife, Lizzie and daughter Georgia, the team at Clifton is proud to create this scholarship in conjunction with RREF to honour his legacy.”
